Intern: “Ensure They Are Informed”

West St. Paul Reader intern Megan Noggle

We’re wrapping up our first internship with West St. Paul Reader this week. Megan Noggle has spent the last 20 weeks writing local news stories, covering meetings, and staffing a booth at community events.

We had our last internships in 2015, so we’re a bit rusty. But it’s invigorating to share insights with an up and coming writer.

You can’t control what people do with the information you give them, but you can ensure they are informed. And that in itself is so important.

For the first time we offered a paid internship, though it’s still intern wages. In the spirit of community-funded journalism (which is how West St. Paul Reader works), we invited the community to help us give Megan a bonus. At the last update she had received nearly $200, so we’re ecstatic to have the community join us in sending her back to school with a little extra help.
