Miracle
starring Kurt Russell
2004
It's the ultimate Hollywood story: an underdog sports team rising against incredible odds to beat the longtime favorite, all while the political climate makes it so much more than a game. But surprisingly, Miracle isn't the cheesy, melodramatic sports tale you might expect from Disney. There's not a hint of The Mighty Ducks in this accurate retelling of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's march to the gold medal.
So you know the ending? The film is still tense and gripping, full of skillful acting and some of the best sports cinematography ever. Games are certainly dramatized, but there's little manipulation and last second drama.
