Kanye West on Contradiction

"It's definitely a contradiction. Contradiction is part of who everybody is. I am a real person, and I make my mistakes and I laugh and I cry and I smile and I hate and I love. One song is, I love God, and the next song is, Can you come over? That's how I feel. Sometimes you're in church, and you're looking at the girl's dress right next to you."

-Kanye West responding to a question about the contradiction between his song "Jesus Walks" and the profanity and sexual content on the rest of his College Dropout album. (Source: Time, December 13, 2004)

Bono Asks the Hard Questions

“I write feelings, not thoughts. Feelings are much stronger than thoughts. We are all led by instinct, and our intellect catches up later... What came out of me [on How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb] was the other things in my life I wasn’t tending to: My family, the hypocrisy of my own heart, and my father’s death. I mean, why am I not spending more time with my kids? Why am I trying to save other people’s kids instead? How can I sing about love when I’m never home?”

-U2 frontman Bono. (Source: Spin, December 2004)

Amber Tamblyn on Selling Out

“If I’m going to sell out, even for a moment, to get something for my career, is the outcome really worth it? And it’s hard, because stuff can be handed to you and everyone can be like, ‘Oh it’s fine, it’s easy for you, just do it and it won’t be that big of deal.’And, well, maybe it’s a big deal to me. Everyone talks about ‘staying grounded’ when you become famous, and part of staying grounded is listening to that void inside your head and not compromising.”
