Sixpence's Leigh Nash Goes Solo

Leigh NashFormer Sixpence None the Richer lead singer Leigh Nash is going solo. She's currently working on a new album to be released in 2006, and you can hear several samples at her myspace site.

"It's really wonderful to be able to put your whole self into something," she says. "As a band, creating new material is really a group effort; there is a certain lack of control one has as an artist. Now, I am able to take my experiences from the band and from life to make an album that is completely me, inside and out."

Switchfoot: Nothing is Sound

Switchfoot's Nothing is SoundSince releasing The Beautiful Letdown in 2003, Switchfoot have been tearing up the rock 'n roll circuit, scoring accolades, rave reviews and tons of fans. While touring pretty much non-stop they've also managed to record their fifth album, Nothing is Sound, which should be out in August Sept. 13.

"The lyric we chose for the title of the record [Nothing Is Sound] comes from the song," [Jon] Foreman explained recently. "The world is at a very volatile stage, with war, how fast things are changing, but deeper than that, the idea that there is an instability within myself and humanity as a whole — that's where these songs are coming from. Maybe that has a lot to do with being on the road. Maybe staying in one place with a 9-to-5 job would make me less receptive."

MTV has an early interview with the band, including a story about a song inspired by a comment made by Bob Dylan that "happy is a yuppie word" (though Rolling Stone quotes Foreman as crediting Johnny Cash). (link via Infuze)

Update: You can now purchase the first single from Nothing is Sound, "Stars".

Justin McRoberts in the Studio and 99-cent Downloads

Indie musician Justin McRoberts is heading to the studio in June to record his sixth full length album. It should be available in Fall of 2005.

In other Justin-related news, you can pick up 99-cent downloads of tracks from his Trust and Intersections albums.

Of course the best song from Intersections, the cover of U2's "One," is not available online—no doubt thanks to the difficult copyright issues. You'll have to buy the CD to get that one, but you can get "Qualifications For Love," "Beautiful To Me" and "Undecided," among some of the other gems. From Trust there's "Beautiful Once," which has to be the best song, hands down.
