Tender Mercies

Filed under: Drama | Buy on Amazon

This is a slow, life study of a man atoning for his past sins. Probably too slow for today's movie-goers, but I love the slow, methodical character study.

The movie explores grace and faith and forgiveness, ultimately asking the big 'why' question of life--but not providing any tangible answers. It's about mercy and love and starting over.

It centers around washed up country singer and alcoholic Mac Sledge (Robert Duvall in his typical Oscar-winning style) who meets a new family and a second chance. Church becomes a unassuming anchor, much like in real life, making for a realistic movie for once.
