Iron Giant
Filed under: Family | Buy on Amazon
A young boy befriends a giant alien robot and protects it from a government agent out to destroy it.
It's a fairly typical fantasy-adventure plot for children, but it has a lot of heart and depth. The movie explores the nature of the soul, exemplifies sacrifice, and questions violence.
Brad Bird, who went on to do The Incredibles, directed, with Tim McCanlies, who later did Secondhand Lions, writing the screenplay, so you have an idea of the quality of the filmmaking.
It's an all-around pleasing movie, with little to criticize and a lot to love.
