Our Journey: The Basics

In the summer of 2007, Kevin, Abby and Lexi Hendricks began our adoption process. We decided to adopt through Children's Home Society and Family Services.

The process generally takes 1-2 years and can cost upwards of $25,000. So far it's going very quickly and we're hopeful that a child will be placed with us in 2008.

We have no preference for gender and we're hoping for a child under 18 months old (though because of Lexi's age and our agency's desire to keep a natural birth order, the baby we adopt has to be one year younger than Lexi, which puts us roughly under 12 months). We're also open to siblings, which is unlikely given the whole natural birth order thing--though twins (gulp) are a possibility.

In December 2007 we were added to the waiting list and told it could take 6-9 12 months.
